Another year, another fiesta. More than just a day of thanksgiving, merrymaking and celebration, here in Quiapo, it is also a time when devotees of The Poong Nazareno, from all over, converge and reaffirm their faith. To some, it may look like something bordering fanaticism, but to those whose lives has been changed by that faith, it is penance. That same sort that we usually observe during The Holy Week. Anyway, I'm not really a serious "devotee" like those going barefoot or wearing maroon outfits with imprints of The Poon. But, I usually go to Quiapo's Fiesta and take some snaps of the event whenever I can. During my childhood days, I was a "batang Quiapo" too for I lived in that area with my lola. All these years I have not had a single chance to really see the main event. I mean really see The Poon in procession leaving and/or returning to the church. I think I lack the guts to "swim" in the sea of people where one wrong mistake and you can be crushed. Maybe some other time when I'm more confident. In this event, I used my old Pentax ME Super and a roll of a terrible expired Kodak film which I bought several months ago (really grainy). I also included some shots from a Fuji Superia roll. Prints were scanned from a flatbed (I don't have a dedicated film scanner). :-( |
